Why “Fezziwig” Foundation?

Famed 19th-century author Charles Dickens created the character Nigel Fezziwig as a counterweight to protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge in the timeless novel A Christmas Carol. Fezziwig was young Scrooge’s trainer, manager, and mentor in business. Though a successful businessman, Fezziwig embodied playfulness, fun, unjudging generosity, and love – all tenets of abiding happiness that Scrooge forsakes, at least consciously, as he ages. For Scrooge – for us – Fezziwig is a beacon of light, goodness, laughter, and heartwarming kindness. Fezziwig is very much in the world, but not of the world. Fezziwig is realist enough to achieve earthly goals, yet powerful enough a dreamer to stir Scrooge’s soul…

“Why, it’s old Fezziwig! Bless his heart; it’s Fezziwig alive again!”

“The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.”

Fezziwig Foundation was established as a Georgia non-profit corporation in February 2022 to underwrite family-oriented amateur community theatre in Gwinnett County. Fezziwig's initial "client" was Dogwood Theatre Company, an unaffiliated association of college and high school actors and actresses with common ties in the Dacula area. Three of Fezziwig's board members are co-founders of Dogwood.
